Preheat oven to 375°.
Melt margarine in saucepan.
Add onion and saute until softened.
Add flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
Remove pan from heat and stir in buttermilk.
Return to heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Add cheese, mustard and salt.
Stir until cheese is melted.
Remove from heat.
Beat in egg yolks, one at a time.
Add red pepper.
