Candy Cane Cookies
Candy Cane Cookies is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. soft butter or margarine, 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. confectioners sugar, 1 egg and 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Preheat oven to 350Β°.
In a large mixing bowl, add butter, shortening, confectioners sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon.
Blend in flour and salt gradually.
Divide dough in half.
Keep half in large bowl, put other half in another mixing bowl.
Add red food coloring to one half.
Shape one teaspoon of dough (each color) into a 4-inch rope.
For smooth, even ropes roll back and forth on floured board.
Place ropes side by side, lightly press together and twist.
Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Curve top down to form handle of cane.
Bake about 9 minutes until set.
Very light brown.
Remove from cookie sheet immediately.
Makes 4 dozen cookies.
