In a 3-quart saucepan, heat sugar, syrup and water until sugar dissolves.
While syrup boils, stir in butter and stir often. Heat to 230°.
Add nuts.
Heat to 280°, then stir constantly to 305°.
Remove from heat.
Quickly stir in soda; mix well.
Pour onto 2 cookie sheets, then stretch by lifting and pulling from edges.
With a fork, loosen from pan as soon as possible and break into pieces.
