Buttermilk Biscuits

Preheat oven to 450Β°.
Sift flour and then measure.
Combine with remaining dry ingredients and resift 3 times.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or rub with fingertips.
Stir in buttermilk until thoroughly mixed.
Turn dough into a lightly floured surface and knead about a dozen times.
Roll out to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick, then cut with a floured biscuit cutter.
Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet.
Brush tops with melted shortening.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
