Bread and Butter Pickles
Bread And Butter Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 qt. cucumbers, thinly sliced, 2 c. sliced onions, 1/2 c. salt, 4 c. sugar and 1 tsp. turmeric, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Combine cucumbers, onions and salt and let stand for 3 hours. Drain off salt water brine.
Bring sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar to boiling point.
Add drained cucumbers and onions.
Heat thoroughly but do not boil (about 2 minutes). Place in pint jars and seal immediately.
Makes approximately 7 pints.
