Black Walnut Cake
Black Walnut Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. butter, 1/2 c. shortening, 2 c. sugar, 5 eggs, separated and 1 c. buttermilk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy and sugar is dissolved.
Add egg yolks; beat well.
Combine buttermilk and soda; stir until dissolves. Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
Stir in vanilla.
Add walnuts and coconut; stir well.
Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
Fold egg whites into batter.
Pour into Bundt pan.
Bake at 350Β° for 45 minutes.
Cool completely and frost with cream cheese frosting.
