Biscuits

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center; add milk all at once.
Stir just until dough clings together.
On a lightly floured surface, knead gently 10 to 12 strokes.
Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness.
Cut with a 2 1/2-inch cutter, dipping cutter into flour between cuts.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 450Β° for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.
Serve warm.
Makes 10 (2 1/2-inch) biscuits.
