Banana Nut Layer Cake

In a mixing bowl, cream together shortening and sugar.
Beat in egg and egg white. Add buttermilk and bananas; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans. Bake at 350Β° for 35 minutes or until done. Cool in pans 10 minutes before removing to wire rack. Cool completely, then add filling to bottom layer only.
