Baklava
Baklava is an easy dinner. Made with 2 lb. walnut meats or almonds, ground, 1 c. sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 2 lb. melted butter and 2 lb. phyllo dough leaves (2 pkg. frozen phyllo), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Grind walnuts and mix with sugar and spice.
Grease an 11 x 16-inch pan with melted butter.
Place 12 phyllo sheets in the large pan, brushing each with melted butter.
Sprinkle with 2 cups of nut mixture.
Cover with 5 phyllo sheets, brushing each generously with melted butter.
Continue this procedure until all nut mixture is used.
Finish with 12 phyllo sheets on top, brushing each with melted butter.
Chill before cutting.
Cut pastry into small diamond shapes.
Bake in a slow oven (300Β°) for about 1 1/2 hours until lightly browned.
Remove from oven and pour cool syrup over hot pastry.
Makes 75 pieces.
