Aunt Jo's Ginger Cookies

Sift the dry ingredients and set aside.
Mix the shortening with the brown sugar.
Add the egg and mix.
Add the dry ingredients to the liquid mixture.
Roll into 2 (1 1/2-inch) logs. Wrap in wax paper and refrigerate 2 to 3 hours or overnight. Slice thinly, 1/4 to 1/2-inch.
Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375Β° for 8 to 10 minutes.
Store in an airtight container. To keep the cookies from getting too crisp, place a slice of bread in the container.
