To the flour, add the sugar, baking soda, salt and cocoa.

Sift together 3 times, then place mixture in a small, greased 8-inch square pan.

Make 3 dents in the top of the mixture.

In the first dent, place 1 teaspoon vinegar; in the second dent, place 1 teaspoon vanilla; in the third dent, place 5 tablespoons melted shortening.

Put 1 cup of cold water over this and mix well.

Bake in moderate oven at 350Β° for 35 minutes.

Recipe may be doubled and baked in tube pan.

Bake longer than before.

A good moist cake. Delicious with sprinkled powdered sugar or topped with Cool Whip.
