Upside-Down Cake
Upside-Down Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. sugar, 1 egg, 1 c. water and 2 c. sifted flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, water, sifted flour, baking powder, salt and flavoring as any cake batter.
Melt in heavy skillet: brown sugar and butter.
Arrange pineapple slices or other fruit in melted mixture.
Cover with batter.
Bake at 350Β° for 45 minutes or longer.
When done, let stand 10 minutes, then turn out on baking sheet covered with waxed paper.
(If peaches are used, add 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves.
If apples are used, add cinnamon and nutmeg.)
