Sweetheart Cookies
Sweetheart Cookies is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2/3 c. shortening, softened, 1 tbsp. milk, 1 tsp. baking powder, 3/4 c. oats (quick or old-fashioned) and 3/4 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Beat shortening and sugar until creamy.
Blend in egg, milk and vanilla.
Blend flour, baking powder and salt together.
Add to creamed mixture; mix well.
Stir in oats.
Chill dough several hours or overnight.
Let stand at room temperature for 10 minutes. Roll out on lightly floured board to 1/2-inch; cut.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375Β° for 10 to 12 minutes.
When cool, frost.
Cookies can be cut into any shape, easily handled. Makes 3 dozen.
