Cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs and beat well.
Sift flour with baking powder and spices and add alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
Fold in mashed sweet potatoes, nuts, raisins and dates.
Bake in greased and floured tube pan at 350Β° for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cake tests done.
