Mix sugar and yeast (dissolved in warm water) in large bowl; stir until blended.
Mix egg, milk, shortening, salt and extract into yeast.
Sift spices and flour and blend in.
Work fruit into dough.
Cover; let rise until double.
Punch down, knead and form into rolls.
Let rise again.
Bake at 375Β° until brown on top.
