Rye Bread
Rye Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3 c. scalded milk, 1 tbsp. shortening, 3/4 c. brown sugar, 1 tsp. salt and 3 tbsp. molasses, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Packed with nutrients and delicious flavors.
Pour shortening, brown sugar, salt and molasses over milk and add anise seed; let cool.
Mix yeast and water and add to above. Make a well in flour and pour cooled mixture into flour and gradually mix.
Let stand 15 minutes with a wet cloth on top. Make 3 loaves in greased pans.
Let rise in pans 1 hour.
Bake at 400° for 10 minutes, then at 350° for 50 minutes.
