Red Cake
Red Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs, 2 oz. red food coloring and 1 tsp. vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Mix vinegar and soda and set aside.
Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs.
Add a little food coloring to cocoa to make a paste.
Add to creamed mixture with rest of coloring.
Add flour and salt, alternating with milk.
Add vanilla, then vinegar and soda.
Beat well.
Use 2 (8-inch) round pans (greased and floured).
Bake 30 minutes at 350Β°.
When cooked, split to make 4 layers.
