Ranchero Raised Biscuits

Combine raisins, milk, sugar, salt, shortening and cornmeal in bowl.
Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to mixture.
Add egg and flour.
Blend well.
Drop by spoonfuls into a well-greased 11-inch oblong baking pan.
Let rise 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400Β° for about 20 minutes. Serve hot with butter or jam.
