Sift flour once; measure.
Add baking soda, salt and sugar; sift again.
Cut in shortening.
Add enough milk to make a stiff dough.
Turn onto floured board.
Knead slightly.
Roll into a rectangle 1/4-inch thick.
Spread with soft butter.
Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and raisins or currants.
Roll as for jelly roll.
Cut in slices 3/4-inch thick.
Place cut side down on baking sheet.
