The flour, salt, sugar and shortening (with hands, keep 3/4 cup for raisins and nuts to the rest. Stir soda into buttermilk and egg and molasses. Then blend in first mixture.
Into 9-inch cake pan (well greased).
Put the 3/4 cup crumbs on and bake in a slow 325Β° oven for 50 minutes.
