Cream butter, shortening and sugars.
Add eggs and beat well. Sift dry ingredients.
Add alternately to creamed mixture with milk.
Beat well at medium speed.
Add vanilla and nuts; stir well with spoon.
Use 1 standard-sized tube pan or 3 foil loaf pans (7 7/8 x 3 7/8 x 2 1/2-inch).
Ice with favorite brown sugar icing. Bake tube cake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours; loaf cakes at 325° for 1 hour.
