Quick Sauerbraten
Quick Sauerbraten is an impressive dinner. Made with 3 to 4 lb. roast, 1 tbsp. vegetable oil, 3/4 cup chopped onions, 3 tbsp. brown sugar and 1 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Brown roast on both sides in large dutch oven.
Combine onion, brown sugar, salt, pepper, ginger, cloves, allspice, bay leaf, 1 c. water and vinegar.
Mix well and pour over roast. Cover and simmer or bake at 325Β° 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until tender, turning over roast once.
Remove roast to serving platter.
Remove bay leaf.
Stir 1/2 c. water into flour then stir into pan drippings. Cook, stirring constantly.
Add water, if needed.
Makes great gravy.
Serve with "lots" of mashed potatoes.
