Preheat oven to 350°.

Peel the potatoes (enough to fill a 13 x 9-inch casserole bowl) and slice as thin as possible.

Grate the cheese.

Brown the sausage.

Alternate the layers of each, beginning with a layer of potato slices, then sausage and then cheese.

Add the milk, salt and pepper.

Bake in preheated 350° oven.

You may have to cover with foil.

For softer potatoes you may want to boil them for a few minutes before putting them in the casserole bowl.
