Portuguese Sweet Bread
Portuguese Sweet Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 9 or more c. flour, 2 pkg. yeast, 3 c. milk, 3/4 c. shortening and 1 1/2 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Mix half the flour and yeast.
Heat milk, sugar, shortening and salt just to melt shortening.
Let cool to lukewarm; add to dry ingredients with eggs.
Mix well and start adding flour.
Mix with hands until dough becomes stiff.
Knead until smooth. Grease tops of dough and let rise until double.
Form into 3 loaves; let double.
Bake at 375Β° for 40 to 45 minutes.
