In a heavy 4-quart pan, combine sugar, syrup and water.

Boil rapidly over high heat until it spins a thread.

Add pecans. Continue cooking until it turns a light brown.

Remove from heat. Add oleo and vanilla.

Add soda.

While it is still bubbling, pour out on 2 greased cookie sheets as thinly as possible.

Let cool.
