Combine sugar, peanuts, Karo syrup, water and salt.
Cook on medium heat, stirring continuously until peanuts are very brown, to hard crack stage.
Remove from heat; add soda and stir.
Pour on a well buttered baking sheet.
Spread as thin as possible. Serves 15 to 20.
