Patty's Applesauce Cake

Sift together flour, cocoa, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
Coat raisins and nuts (if wanted).
Cream shortening; add sugar and beat well.
Add eggs.
Beat well.
Add applesauce. Add to flour mixture and mix well.
Dissolve soda in water and add to mixture.
Mix well and pour in large greased and floured tube pan.
