Oven Apple Butter
Oven Apple Butter is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 40 large apples (about 13), quartered and cored, 8 c. sugar, 1/4 c. water, 1 c. cider vinegar and 4 tsp. ground cinnamon, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
In a large covered kettle, simmer the apples and water until tender.
Press through a sieve or food mill.
Measure 1 gallon of pulp; place in a large roaster.
Add sugar, vinegar, cinnamon and cinnamon stick.
Cover and bake at 400Β° for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
Uncover and bake 1 hour longer, stirring occasionally until very thick.
Remove the cinnamon stick.
Pour hot into hot jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
Adjust the caps. Process for 10 minutes in a boiling water bath.
Yield: 8 pints.
