Orange-Nut Bread
Orange-Nut Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 medium-size orange, boiling water, 1 c. raisins or dates, 2 tbsp. shortening and 1 tsp. vanilla extract, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.

Place juice from orange in measuring cup and fill with boiling water.
Force orange rind and raisins or pitted dates through coarse blade of food chopper.
Add diluted orange juice. Stir in shortening, vanilla and egg.
Add flour, sifted with salt, baking powder, soda and sugar.
Beat well and stir in nut meats. Bake in greased 1 pound loaf pan in moderate oven (350Β°) about 1 hour.
Cool in pan before slicing.
