Cream the shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add flour alternately with milk and vanilla, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thick. Cut with floured cookie cutter.
Sprinkle with sugar. Bake on a lightly greased baking sheet at 350Β° about 15 minutes.
Makes 3 to 4 dozen cookies.
