Old Fashioned Peanut Brittle

Boil sugar, Karo and water until it spins a thread or hard ball.
Add peanuts and butter.
Cook until it turns a gold brown, stirring constantly (careful not to scorch it).
Remove from fire and add vanilla, salt and soda.
Mix quickly and pour into buttered foil-lined cookie sheets.
Mixture will be extremely hot. Allow to cool completely; peel off the foil, then break into chunks.
