Simmer raisins in water until raisins are plump.
Drain liquid into cup; add water to liquid to equal 1/2 cup.
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
Stir in raisin liquid.
Blend flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices.
Stir well.
Add rolled oats, nuts and raisins.
Drop full teaspoons of dough 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400Β° for 8 to 10 minutes.
