Lightly grease 2 baking sheets; set aside. In a medium bowl mix first 5 ingredients; set aside.

In a small saucepan or skillet melt margarine over moderate heat.

Add margarine, maple syrup and vanilla to dry ingredients; mix well. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto baking sheets, spacing cookies about 2 inches apart.

Pat each cookie down lightly to form 1/2 inch thick rounds.
