Mom's White Cake

Mix first 4 ingredients together.
Add next 5 ingredients. Beat for one minute, then add additional 1/4 cup of water and additional 1/4 cup milk.
Beat for one half a minute.
Add egg whites, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Continue to beat for 1 1/2 minutes.
Bake in 2 greased, waxed paper lined, floured 9-inch square cake pans or a 9 x 13-inch cake pan in moderate oven (350Β°) for 30 minutes.
