Molasses Cake
Molasses Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. homemade syrup, 2/3 tsp. soda, 1/2 c. shortening, 1/2 c. buttermilk and 2 c. sifted self-rising flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Now follow directions exactly as written: heat molasses and remove from heat.
Beat soda into molasses.
Add shortening, then buttermilk; stir well.
Add self-rising flour, beating well.
Add spices or vanilla or both (I use both).
Add eggs last then beat hard and well.
Makes 3 layers.
Bake at 350Β° until done.
Test with toothpick or finger pressure in center.
No matter what you think, add the eggs last!
Ice with Brown Sugar Icing.
