Cream the shortening, butter or margarine, and sugar; add flour and pecans.
Set aside 1/2 of this mixture.
To remaining half, add egg, vanilla, sour cream, and baking soda.
Mix well. Place in 9 x 13 sheet cake pan.
Top with reserved dry mixture. Bake at 350Β° for 45 minutes.
