Michigan Baked Beans

Soak beans overnight in cold water.
In the morning, cover and bring to a simmer slowly, adding more water if necessary.
When beans have nearly doubled in size, stir in soda and bring to a boil.
Pour off the green liquid and put beans in a colander to drain.
Run hot water over them to clean off soda water.
Wash out the pot and put beans back in.
Cover with hot water and add the salt.
Cover and simmer until done, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
