Kilkenny Soda Bread

Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Mix in the caraway seed.
Cut in shortening to the consistency of cornmeal.
Add raisins.
Combine buttermilk, egg and baking soda and blend with other mixture until just moistened.
Turn out on lightly floured board and knead gently until smooth.
Place dough in greased 8-inch round pan.
Cut a cross on top about 1/2-inch deep.
