Jule Kage(Norwegian Christmas Bread)
Jule Kage(Norwegian Christmas Bread) is an impressive dinner. Made with 1 c. warm water, 2 c. milk (i use powdered milk), 1/2 c. shortening (i use corn oil margarine), 4 beaten eggs and 4 tsp. ground cardamon, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Mix yeast with lukewarm water in large mixing bowl.
(I use large Tupperware "cake taker" with lid to keep the dough warm.) Add milk, eggs and some flour and beat well.
Then add rest of ingredients and as much flour as needed to make soft, easy to handle dough.
Knead well and let rise until double, then knead again and let rise.
Put in 1 pound loaves or whatever you like (round cake pans, etc.) and rise until double.
Bake in a 300Β° oven for 45 minutes (watch).
Frost and decorate as desired.
