Add eggs and flour.
Next, add baking powder and vanilla. Bake in 2 layer cake pans (reserving enough batter for a third layer) at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool on waxed paper.
To the remaining batter, add the spices, raisins, nuts, and dates, if desired.
Bake in layer cake pan at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. This third layer goes between the first 2 layers.
