Together sugar, yolks, oil and margarine. Sift in flour and baking soda. Add buttermilk and vanilla to batter and mix well.
Add coconut, nuts and raisins.
Fold in beaten egg whites.
Grease and flour 3 (8-inch) layer pans or 2 (9 x 13-inch) pans.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
