Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.

Add scalded milk (cooled) and 1/2 cup sugar.

Stir in melted shortening, cooled. Add beaten egg and salt; slowly stir in flour until dough is stiff enough to knead.

Knead on floured board until smooth and elastic for 10 minutes.

Make dough into ball; place in a large greased bowl.

Brush top with melted shortening.

Cover and keep in warm place until dough doubles in size.

Turn out onto floured board; knead slightly and form into rolls.

Place in baking pan.

Brush with shortening.

Let rise until double in size.

Bake in the oven at 375Β° for 20 minutes.
