Hot Water Gingerbread
Hot Water Gingerbread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 1/2 c. sifted flour, 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. powdered cloves, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1 tsp. ginger, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Packed with nutrients and delicious flavors.
Heat oven to 350°.
Grease and flour 9 x 9 x 2-inch cake pan. Sift together first 6 ingredients.
Work shortening until smooth and creamy.
Slowly add sugar until light and creamy.
Add beaten egg and molasses.
Add flour mixture and hot water alternately, beating after each addition.
Turn into pan and bake in moderate oven at 350° for 40 to 55 minutes or until done.
