Trim the crusts from day-old bread.
Cut into cubes the size you want your croutons to be.
Place the cubes on an ungreased baking sheet and toast in a 350Β° oven until they are golden brown. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter at a time.
When the butter's foam begins to subside, add a batch of the toasted bread cubes and saute lightly on all sides.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towel.
