Granny's Corn Light Bread
Granny'S Corn Light Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. plain meal (white, preferable), 1 1/2 c. plain flour, 2 c. buttermilk, 1 tsp. soda and 1/2 to 1 tsp. salt, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Heat shortening in an oblong or square baking pan that bread will be baked in.
Pour buttermilk into mixing bowl; add meal. Sift the flour, soda and salt into this; add sugar.
Stir well. Pour about half of hot shortening into batter; continue stirring until well mixed.
Pour batter into heated pan and cook at 350° to 375° for forty-five minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
