German Spice Bars(Lebkuchen)
German Spice Bars(Lebkuchen) is an impressive dinner. Made with 1 1/3 c. honey (you can substitute some molasses for honey), 3/4 c. sugar, 3 tbsp. butter, 2 c. flour and 1 tsp. baking powder, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Heat honey and sugar slightly in a pan.
Add butter.
Add 2 cups flour and baking powder; beat well.
Add nuts, citron, peels and spices.
Add 1 1/2 to 2 more cups flour until you have a thick, pliable dough.
Pat it 1/4 inch thick into pans (three 8 x 8-inch cake pans and one 9 x 9-inch cake pan).
Bake about 25 minutes. When cool, cut in squares and ice with Lemon Glaze.
Make this ahead for Christmas.
Keeps 6 months when in an airtight container!
