Fruitcake Squares

Made with 1/3 c. butter or margarine, 1 (12 oz.) box vanilla wafers, finely crushed, 1 c. pecan halves, 3/4 c. chopped dates and 3/4 c. halved green candied cherries, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. In a small saucepan, melt butter or margarine, then pour into a 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan, tilting pan to spread butter evenly. Sprinkle crushed vanilla wafers evenly over butter in pan. Arrange nuts, dates and candied fruits evenly over the crumb mixture and press down gently.
Combine sweetened condensed milk and the 1/4 cup milk; pour evenly over top. Bake at 350Β° for 20 to 25 minutes or until set. Cool, then cut into squares.
