Fried Okra is an easy dinner. Made with 1 to 2 lb. okra, 5 tbsp. crisco, 1/2 c. cornmeal or more if needed, salt to taste and pepper to taste, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Wash and drain okra; cut into pieces (not too thin) into large bowl.

Sprinkle with the cornmeal, salt and pepper.

Heat large saucepan; add shortening on medium.

When melted, raise heat to medium-high and pour in okra.

Wait for 2 to 3 minutes.

Lower heat back to medium.

Now in about 5 to 8 minutes, take spatula and lift and turn okra.

Do not stir this okra up, please lift and turn to make a crispy fried okra.

Lower the heat a little so as not to burn, please.

May add more cornmeal.

Make sure okra is well coated with the meal.
