Preheat oven to 325°.

Cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Add vanilla.

Sift flour, cinnamon, allspice, salt and baking soda in separate bowl.

Place small amount of flour mixture in small bowl.

Dredge pecans in mixture; set aside.

Add remaining flour and buttermilk alternately to creamed mixture. Add fig preserves and floured pecans.

Bake for 1 hour in tube pan, greased and floured.

Reduce oven temperature to 300° and bake an additional 15 minutes.
