Combine flour with baking powder, salt and sugar into large mixing bowl.
Add shortening and milk and mix.
Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed of electric mixer.
Add remaining 1/4 cup milk, egg and vanilla.
Beat 2 minutes longer.
Use rubber spatula.
Pour into baking dish and bake at 350Β° for 50 to 55 minutes.
